Robert D. Sullivan M.D.

Dr. Sullivan began an ophthalmology residency training program at the Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute in Milwaukee. Upon completing three years of training in eye surgery in 1977, he moved to Appleton and entered private practice.

Dr. Sullivan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (the primary organization devoted specifically to refractive surgery). He is also a member in good standing of local, state and national medical associations.

Dr. Sullivan’s special interest in refractive surgery of the eye (iLASIK, PRK, multifocal, toric, and accommodative IOL’s) has established him as one of the leaders in the area. He is also very well versed in traditional cataract surgery, performing over 10,000 procedures throughout his career.


Paul K. Thompson, O.D.

Dr. Thompson has been with the Sullivan Eye Center since 1992. He is a graduate of New London High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Marquette University and his Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago.

Dr. Thompson has been the President of the Fox Valley Optometric Society and a member of the Wisconsin Optometric Association Board of Directors. He has been a leader in optometry, teaching other optometrists at educational meetings. He most recently taught a course on culturing corneal ulcers.

Dr. Thompson provides primary eye care services for his patients at both the Sullivan Eye Center in Appleton and New London. In addition to providing routine eye exams, Dr. Thompson enjoys medical eye care and fitting specialty contact lenses.


Rebecca D. Amaral, O.D.

Dr. Amaral has been with Sullivan Eye Center since 1999. She is a New London native and attended UW-LaCrosse from 1992-1995, majoring in biology. She then transferred to Indiana University and obtained a Bachelor Degree in optometry in 1997 and a Doctorate of Optometry in 1999.

Dr. Amaral is a member of Beta Sigma Honor Society, Wisconsin Optometric Association, and American Optometric Association.

Dr. Amaral sees patients at both New London and Appleton offices and provides full scope optometric care for all ages.
